Collecting odd things

Does anyone collect anything that might be interesting, unusual or hard to maintain or have some kind of significant value? For example I collect feathers because it's me, and I collect crystals as focuses for different things, I guess you would best classify me as pagan but I'm not really religious at all. I used to collect shells when I was little but that's more ordinary, and I collected stacks of miniature tapes because I recorded everything.

Why are shell collections ordinary? I have found some people's shell collections fascinating.
The most valued aspect to humans' collections is what the human says about it, the back story, I believe is the popular term.
I have a few bird figurines and am a sucker for bird figurines. And I have recently started a beer growler collection from local breweries.
I have never seen a feather collection. How fascinating. How did you get started? And, where do you get these? If you visit local aviaries, you can find out when the local bird population is molting - last year's feathers are coming out naturally. The feather is a unique and fascinating tool. But I am unashamedly a birder, so.

As a child, I used to collect stones from the beach (I'm sure it's illegal hear), but I've no idea where they went when we moved out of my house. I now collect ringpulls off of cans I've drunk, and bottle caps from beer and cider bottles. I know it's not exactly a collection, but i once bought 100 metres of tape, and made a huge ball of it,about the sise of your head. I still have it.

Stones or rocks are fascinating.
Anybody's guess, but I wonder when humans started collecting for the sake of collecting? Before agriculture? Before the Stone Age?
Even before agriculture, people had semipermanent settlements, so it is possible. And by collecting I mean stuff like we're talking here, not collecting useful things like tools and pots and so on.

This is neat! I honestly don't know if I really collect anything but I like to hear about all these collections very interesting!

Talking clocks, old radio shows, sound effects CDs, old cartoons and TV shows, fifties and sixties horror and sci-fi flicks in the so-bad-they're-good category. Yeah, definitely letting my nerd flag fly!

I guess you can say I collect several things. One thing that I collect that my grandparents got me into is old fashioned irons. I only collect the tiny versions of them, but they are still pretty cool. They come in all different shapes and sizes and they are all powered in different ways. It's weird, but I like it, probably because of my Grandparents.

I also collected porcilin dolls when I was little and music boxes. I also kind of collect rocks, picking up one or two when I am at a special place that I haven't been to before. And, I guess it could be said that I collect stuffed animals, mostly dogs, wolves and the like.

I have collected rocks--polished and unpolished---since I was very little. I used to have a shell collection too, but I got rid of it before I moved out of my parents' house. I started collecting dolphin figurines when I was in seventh grade, because my winning word in the school spelling bee was dolphin.
